St. Johns Country Day midfielder Sydney Schmidt is the Florida Times-Union's 12th Northeast Florida Athlete of the Week for the 2022-23 high school sports season, covering the week of Nov. 7-12.

The freshman midfielder scored a hat trick against Gainesville Buchholz in the season opener, followed by the game-winning goals on the road against Tallahassee Chiles and Tallahassee Lincoln as the 11-time defending champion Spartans opened the girls soccer season 3-0.

She placed first in a vote that also included top performers Sean Ashenfelder (Creekside football), Marcel Bowes (Raines football), Hunter Kratochvil (Yulee boys soccer), Henry Robards (Episcopal boys golf) and Violet Robbins (Bolles girls golf).

This week's vote

It's time to vote for Florida Times-Union's Athlete of the Week for the week of November 14-19, 2022.

The Times-Union gathers nominees from scores, stats and nominations e-mailed to the sports desk during the week by coaches across Northeast Florida. Coaches can e-mail these stats and scores to preps@jacksonville.com.

This week's voting begins Monday morning and closes at 10 a.m. Thursday. Votes are restricted to once per device per hour.

Here are the nominees for Nov. 14-19:

Brock Blais, Ponte Vedra boys golf

The senior won the Class 2A individual state championship in a playoff after shooting a 1-under 143, and also led the Sharks to their eighth team title.

Rylie Darkatsh, Stanton girls diving

The junior won the Class 2A diving championship with 430.85 points to earn her third consecutive state title.

Orel Gray, University Christian football

The senior running back scored three rushing touchdowns and returned a kickoff for a fourth score in UC's 42-13 Class 2M playoff win over Orlando First Academy.

Reese Henley, Bartram Trail girls soccer

The senior striker scored against St. Johns Country Day and Stanton as the Bears continued their unbeaten start.

London Jenkins, Fleming Island girls basketball

The junior point guard averaged 23.5 points and five assists as the Golden Eagles won their season-opening games against Fletcher and Bishop Snyder.

Joseph Jimenez, Bishop Kenny boys soccer

The senior midfielder scored one goal and set up another as the Crusaders defeated Columbia 2-0 in their season opener.

Carter Lancaster, Bolles boys swimming

The junior set a Florida High School Athletic Association championship record in the boys 200-yard individual medley as the Bulldogs won their 35th consecutive Class 1A title.

Ralienne Nacional, Beachside girls golf

The junior shot a 151 to tie for ninth place in the Class 2A individual championship in the Barracudas' debut season of FHSAA golf.

Jaden Robinson, Columbia football

The senior linebacker recorded two sacks, a forced fumble, a deflected punt return inside the 20 and a pick-six as the Tigers held off Escambia 17-15 in the Class 3S playoffs.
