Record Athlete of the Week: Linden's Beau Daluz

The votes are in and Beau Daluz of Linden baseball is the Record Athlete of the Week for the week of April 2-8. In an online poll that closed today, Daluz received over 70% of the votes for a total of 2,604 votes.

The senior infielder has played a big role in the Lions perfect season with an overall record of 14-0. In the team's most two-game series win over Bear Creek last week, he had multiple clutch plate appearances. Daluz ended the series with four runs, two hits, and two RBIs on a total of seven at-bats.

The 5-foot 10-inch all-rounder player continues to be an essential piece of Linden's puzzle. When the Lions battled against Waterford on Wednesday, Daluz finished the game with three RBIs and two runs. He pushed his team to a blowout, 15-1.

  • March 4: Jordan Lee, St. Mary's girls basketball and Elijah Mobley, Weston Ranch boys basketball

  • March 18: Sophia Coronado, Kimball softball and Joel Van Groningen, Ripon Christian boys volleyball

  • March 25: Parker Burks, Franklin baseball

  • April 1: Andrew Wright, Lodi baseball

Readers can vote for their favorite San Joaquin, Calaveras, and Amador counties athletes who have shined the previous week. Voting can be done at the newspaper’s website, recordnet.com.

Here are the candidates for April 2-8 (Athletes listed in alphabetical order):

  • Beau Daluz, baseball, Linden: Daluz played a big role in Linden’s two-game series win over Bear Creek last week. On April 4th’s game, the senior finished with three runs, two hits, and an RBI to help the Lions win 10-9. In the next meeting, his bat was hot again finishing with an RBI and a run.

  • Nikhil Karthikeyan, boys’ volleyball, Mountain House: The senior outside hitter led Mountain House’s offense in its most recent win against Beyer on April 6. He finished the match with a team-high six kills and added an ace and a block. He has helped the Mustangs to an undefeated league record.

  • Nina Lagorio, softball, Linden: Lagorio was unstoppable on the mound in Linden’s dominating 20-1 win over Franklin on April 7. The sophomore pitcher threw a no-hitter only allowing one run and ended the game striking out eight batters. Her 8 Ks is a season-high for Lagorio.

  • Galadriel Mellion, track and field, Weston Ranch: Mellion was a primetime thrower in the 2023 Arcadia Invitational on April 8. She set a season record in the shot put event, throwing for 41 feet and 8.5 inches. Mellion took home second place out of 17 other throwers.

  • Ariel Nava, softball, St. Mary’s: Nava shined as a pitcher and a hitter on April 6 when the Rams took on long-time rival Lincoln. The senior struck out 14 batters the most Ks so far this season to help St. Mary’s to a 9-2 win. Offensively, she added three hits, two runs, and an RBI.

  • Adonis Siga, track and field, Lathrop: After competing in the 2023 Arcadia Invitational on April 8, Siga has risen to the top of the ranks of the Sac-Joaquin Section. He set a personal record in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 39.51 seconds. That time is the fastest in the section and earned him 10th place in the meet.

Athlete of the Week nominations are based on information available to The Record about all high school varsity players from San Joaquin, Calaveras, and Amador counties. Nominations must be received for consideration by Monday morning following that week's games.
