Vote now for The State’s Midlands high school football Player of the Week (9.18.23)

The fifth week of the high school football season is in the books in South Carolina.

It’s time to vote for The State’s high school football Player of the Week from Midlands-area high schools and games played Sept. 15-16. Voting ends Friday at noon.

The winner will be announced on Lou Bezjak’s Twitter page.

The nominees are listed below. Please note that these polls are not scientific and are meant to be just for fun.

Jaden Allen-Hendrix, RB, Irmo: Senior carried it 25 times for 201 yards, four touchdowns in the 35-21 win over Hartsville.

Hayden Chapman, DL, Airport: Junior had five tackles, one for loss, a forced fumble, two fumble recoveries and a defensive touchdown in the 35-18 win over Fox Creek.

Xavion Davenport, DL, Gilbert: Senior had eight tackles, two sacks and quarterback pressure in the 14-3 win over Lexington.

Aidan Heriot, WR/P, Camden: Senior caught five passes for 125 yards, three touchdowns, threw a 30-yard TD and also averaged 43 yards a punt in 52-27 win over AC Flora.

Kinson Holland, RB, Hammond: Junior carried it 24 times for 188 yards, two touchdowns and caught three passes for 20 yards in a 25-7 win over Wilson Hall.

Tre Howard, QB, Ridge View: In first varsity start, the freshman was 19-of-30 passing for 332 yards and four touchdowns in the 40-14 win over Dreher.

Lincoln Ilunga, DE, White Knoll: Senior had seven tackles, two quarterback sacks, a tackle for loss, two quarterback pressures and a forced fumble in the 67-6 win over South Aiken.

Cortez Lane, RB, Cardinal Newman: Senior carried it 14 times for 170 yards, caught two passes for 45 yards and TD plus scored on three two-point conversions in a 53-14 win over Heathwood Hall.

Caleb Pearson, QB/DB, CA Johnson: Senior carried 23 times for 397 yards and five touchdowns in 48-27 win over Swansea. Pearson also had five tackles and two pass breakups on defense.

Gavin Stam, LB, Chapin: Junior had 18 tackles, two for loss, in the Eagles’ 38-31 win over Brookland-Cayce.

Will Wilson, QB, Richland Northeast: Junior North Carolina State commit accounted for five touchdowns as the Cavs defeated Spring Valley for the first time in 12 years.

Amadre Woodson, RB, Batesburg-Leesville: Sophomore carried it 13 times for 151 yards and a TD in 28-26 win over Newberry.
