Vote now for the Vermont Varsity Insider Athletes of the Week: Ballots for Jan. 23-29

Welcome to the fifth installment of the 2022-23 winter season for the Vermont Varsity Insider Athletes of the Week voting by high school sports fans.

This week, and every week during the three sports seasons, members of the public may vote for a top girls athlete and a top boys athlete.

How do I cast my vote?

All voting is through the two ballots at burlingtonfreepress.com. We will not accept votes through email or through social media.

Voting began Monday, Jan. 30, and continues through 11:59 p.m. Thursday.

How do we learn who wins?

The two winners will be announced in a story published at burlingtonfreepress.com on Friday.

May I nominate a deserving athlete for a future ballot?

Yes. Please nominate by sending an email to sports@burlingtonfreepress.com (Subject Line: Athletes of the Week nomination).

Girls Athlete of the Week nominees

More about each candidate:

Kelsey Adams, South Burlington gymnastics: Adams won all three events at a home meet (vault, bars, beam) to claim an all-around winning score of 31.7.

Tess Adams, Essex indoor track and field: The sophomore swept the shot put (31-9.5) and weight throw (33-10) at the Division I state championships at St. Johnsbury on Saturday. The state meet resumes this weekend at the University of Vermont.

Ruby Dasaro, BFA-St. Albans basketball: Dasaro posted 16 points, nine rebounds and a pair of assists in a 43-23 win over Rice. She also had 13 points, eight boards and two assists in a loss to St. Johnsbury earlier in the week.

Caitlyn Fielder, U-32 hockey: In U-32's lone game last week, Fielder struck for five goals and an assist in a 7-2 decision over Stowe.

Maia Jensen, Mount Abraham basketball: After a 20-point, 5-rebound, 5-steal effort in a 45-41 win at Montpelier, Jensen racked up 26 points and seven steals in a 66-36 victory over Middlebury.

Boys Athlete of the Week nominees

Derek Baxter, Stowe hockey: Baxter registered a hat trick in his team's 7-1 victory over Missisquoi.

Trevon Bradley, Winooski basketball: After a 24-point outing in a 56-50 win over Danville, Bradley dropped a triple-double of 24 points, 11 assists and 13 steals in a home rout of Stowe.

David Doran, Fair Haven indoor track and field: Doran captured the shot put (42-2) and weight throw (46-11) during the throws competition at the Division II state championships.

Eli Pockette, Rutland basketball: In a road victory at Mount Anthony, Pockette nearly produced a triple-double, accounting for 25 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists to guide Rutland.

Penn Riney, Middlebury basketball: Riney poured in 28 points in a 60-57 victory over U-32 and also rang up 20 points in a 79-67 triumph over Enosburg.
