Vote now for the Vermont Varsity Insider Athletes of the Week: Ballots for Jan. 10-16

Welcome to the fourth installment of the 2021-22 winter season for the Vermont Varsity Insider Athletes of the Week voting by high school sports fans.

This week, and every week during the three sports seasons, members of the public may vote for a top girls athlete and a top boys athlete (see below for this week's ballot).

How do I cast my vote?

All voting is through the two ballots, which can be found below. We will not accept votes through email or through social media.

Voting began Monday, Jan. 17, and continues through 11:59 p.m. Thursday.

How do we learn who wins?

The two winners will be announced in a story published at burlingtonfreepress.com on Friday.

May I nominate a deserving athlete for a future ballot?

Yes. Please nominate a Vermont high school athlete one of two ways:

Girls Athlete of the Week nominees

Rebecca Cunningham, Burlington Nordic skiing: Cunningham earned a first-place finish in the skate uphill climb (6:53.3) to wrap the Tour de Chittenden at Cochran's Ski Area. Cunningham finished third overall following the three stages.

Avery Gale, Middlebury hockey: Gale tossed in four goals in Middlebury's 6-5 win over Rice. She also had one tally as Tigers rolled to an 8-1 victory over Stowe.

Lizzy Jones, St. Johnsbury gymnastics: Jones seized the all-around competition (36.35) as St. Johnsbury won a dual meet vs. Champlain Valley. Jones won bars (9.65), finished second in vault and beam and tied for third in floor.

Yvonne Roberge, Spaulding basketball: Roberge's 20-point, 6-rebound, 5-assist performance steered the Crimson Tide to a 56-45 victory over Harwood.

Sophie Zemianek, BFA-St. Albans hockey: The all-star defenseman piled up three goals and four assists in BFA's 12-4 win over rival Essex. She also had a pair of assists in the Comets' 13-4 rout of Beekmantown (N.Y.).

Boys Athlete of the Week nominees

Jack Arpey, Mount Mansfield wrestling: The sophomore claimed the 160-pound weight class at the 2022 Michael J. Baker Classic at Essex on Saturday.

Isaiah Brunache, Mount Anthony indoor track and field: The senior broke a 15-year-old state record in shot put (55 feet, 7.75 inches) in a two-win performance at the weight throws competition held at St. Johnsbury on Sunday. Brunache also won weight throw (55-4.5)

Jonah Cattaneo, Montpelier basketball: The former Capital Division player of the year collected 24 points in a 66-46 victory over Harwood, and then poured in 27 points to go with six assists in a 79-52 triumph over Lyndon to power the Solons.

Aiden Savoy, BFA-St. Albans hockey: After scoring once in a 3-0 shutout of CVU, Savoy put up a two-goal, one-assist outing as the Bobwhites skated past Spaudling 7-2. Savoy has six goals in two games vs. Spaulding.

Matthew Servin, Champlain Valley Nordic skiing: Servin capped the Tour de Chittenden with a first-place finish in the skate uphill climb at Cochran's Ski Area. Servin completed the climb in 5:27.
