Vote for The Observer/Deer Park High School football offensive Player of the week

Here are the nominees for the Charlotte Observer/Deer Park Water high school football offensive player of the week.

Eligible players are at schools in Mecklenburg, Cabarrus, Gaston, Iredell, Lincoln and Union Counties in North Carolina and in York and Lancaster Counties in South Carolina.

The weekly winner will receive a trophy from Deer Park.

This week’s nominees

Aydan Cannon, Hickory Grove: in a 43-0 win over Durham’s Mount Zion Christian, Cannon caught six passes for 108 yards and two touchdowns. Lions coach Tad Baucom won his 200th game.

Ian Cline, Providence Day: junior running ran six times for 159 yards and two touchdowns in a 49-7 win over Cannon School. Cline had scoring runs of 35- and 86-yards.

Matt Gaskins, Metrolina Christian: in a 27-14 win over Covenant Day, Gaskins ran 13 times for 128 yards and a touchdown. He also had a 91-yard kickoff return for a score.

Mekhi Herron, AL Brown: junior running back ran six times for 156 yards and three touchdowns in a 49-6 win over South Rowan. He caught two passes for 47 yards and a touchdown. Altogether, he had eight touches for 203 yards and four scores.

Jayvian Knox, North Gaston: in a 55-7 win over Cherryville, Knox ran seven times for 205 yards and four touchdowns.

Mozes Morris, Lake Norman: 5-foot-10 sophomore ran 14 times for a season-best 126 yards in a 23-21 win over previously unbeaten Marvin Ridge. Lake Norman trailed 21-0. Six of Morris carries were for 10 or more yards. He also had a key 21-yard pass completion to Tate Smith on the fake punt that set up Lake Norman’s second touchdown.

Landon Stone, Clover (SC): In a 21-14 win over York (SC), Stone ran for 231 yards on 30 carries and scored twice.

Trey Thompson, Andrew Jackson (SC): in a 31-18 win over Lamar (SC), his team’s first win of the season, Thompson ran 25 times for 229 yards and two touchdowns. He caught two passes for 13 yards and had eight tackles on defense.

Justice Washington, Mountain Island Charter: four catches for 163 yards and two touchdowns in a 42-13 win over SouthLake Christian. QB Grayson Harvey (365 yards passing, two TDs) and senior receiver Reggie Danell (5 catches, 160 yards) also had big games.
