Oregon volleyball player voted first Rockford Register Star high school athlete of the week

Oregon volleyball player Ava Wight was voted as the first Rockford Register Star athlete of the week for the 2022-23 school year.

Wight earned 45 percent of the 67,590 votes, beating out Harlem cross country runner Dylan Malmgren (25 percent). The full results are below.

Wight had three kills, 10 digs and one block in the quick sweep of Eastland last week that got Oregon volleyball off and rolling.

Voting for the next athlete of the week begins Tuesday. To nominate a player or group of players, email Jay Taft at jtaft@rrstar.com by noon each Monday.
