SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — What city has the best zoo in the United States? The public has the power to choose as USA Today is ranking the top zoos in the country with its 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards for the Best Zoo in 2024.

Do you like Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium, the North Carolina Zoo, or the Cincinnati Zoo? How about the Honolulu Zoo? Maybe represent for your hometown by choosing the San Diego Zoo? If these are among your favorite then you’re thinking just like other voters across the country as those zoo’s are currently topping the USA Today leaderboard.

Vote online here for your favorite zoo in the United States. Voting ends March 4 at noon (ET). The winner will be announced March 15.

Out of the hundreds of zoos across the country, a USA Today team of experts narrowed down their top picks. You can vote once per day for any of the 20 zoos featured on the list.

Here in California, the San Diego Zoo and the Oakland Zoo are listed among the nominees on this year’s list.

The San Diego Zoo, along with its Safari Park, has one of the largest, most diverse zoological collections in the world, according to the voting page.

The San Diego Zoo features an award-winning Elephant Odyssey and Elephant Care Center, and has the largest collection of koalas outside Australia in its Australian Outback exhibit, the voting page continued.

Here’s the top 10 leaderboard as of Saturday, Feb. 17:

  1. Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium – Omaha, Nebraska

  2. North Carolina Zoo – Asheboro, North Carolina

  3. Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden – Cincinnati, Ohio

  4. Honolulu Zoo – Honolulu, Hawaii

  5. Cheyenne Mountain Zoo – Colorado Springs, Colorado

  6. Brevard Zoo – Melbourne, Florida

  7. Saint Louis Zoo – St. Louis, Missouri

  8. Audubon Zoo – New Orleans, Louisiana

  9. San Diego Zoo – San Diego, California

  10. ZooMontana – Billings, Montana

Rounding out the list at this time is the Seneca Park Zoo in Rochester, New York. But those rankings are sure to change as there’s still time to vote for your favorite zoo.

In a separate 2024 Readers’ Choice Award, the San Diego Zoo Safari Park in Escondido is a nominee for Best Safari Park in the U.S.
