Poll results: Belleville East senior BND Baseball Player of the Week in southwestern IL

Dylan Mannino of Belleville East High School is the winner of this week’s Belleville News-Democrat Baseball Player of the Week high school poll, as selected by readers of bnd.com.

In recent action, Mannino, a senior pitcher, allowed no runs, on 2 hits and struck out 8 hitters in 5 2/3 combined innings against O’Fallon.

Mannino, who secured 44% of the votes, entered the weekend with a 4-0 record, 1 save and a 1.69 earned run average while allowing just 15 hits and striking out 46 batters in 29 innings pitched.

Here were the other candidates for the week of April 24-29:

  • Austin Brown, Triad High School, senior, P. Brown had 14 strikeouts, while allowing just 2 hits in a 3-0 complete-game victory over Mascoutah.

  • Evan Davis, Waterloo High School, senior, 3B. Davis posted 7 hits in 11 at bats last week while scoring 6 runs, hitting 2 home runs and collecting 7 RBI.

  • Connor Freeze, Breese Central High School, senior, SS/P. Freeze had 3 hits and 5 RBI, including a home run, in a 13-4 win against Litchfield.

  • Lucas Krebbs, Edwardsville High School, sophomore, SS/P. Krebbs had 2 RBI, including a home run, in a 13-1 win over Alton.

  • Gabe Smith, Father McGivney High School, senior, P/INF. Smith recorded 3 hits and 1 RBI in a 4-0 win against St. Pius. He also had a HR and 2 RBI in a 6-2 win over Alton Marquette.

  • Dom Voegele, Columbia High School, senior, P. In action last week, Voegele batted .833 with an on base percentage of .882 and a slugging percentage of 2.333. In 12 at bats, he notched 10 hits, 3 doubles, 5 home runs, 13 RBI, 12 runs scored and 5 walks. On the mound, Voegele allowed just 3 hits in 6 1/3 innings with 14 strikeouts while blasting a 2-run home run against Salem for the win. He followed that with a grand slam against Breese Central that broke open the game and gave the Eagles a 7-0 lead in a game they went on to win. Against Clayton, Missouri, he had a double a 2 RBI in Game 1 and then then went 3-for-3 with a double, two home runs, 4 RBI, 4 runs scored and 2 walks in Game 2, helping lead Columbia to wins in both games. At the time the poll was posted Tuesday, Voegele was batting .537 with 11 doubles, 2 triples, 9 home runs, 30 RBI and 39 runs scored. On the mound, he is 5-0 with a 0.72 earned run average and .614 WHIP, allowing just 13 hits and 5 walks in 30 2/3 innings pitched while fanning 51.
