Vote for The State’s high school basketball players of the week (Jan. 17)

It’s time to vote for The State’s Midlands high school basketball Players of the Week for games played Jan. 10-15.. Voting ends at noon Thursday, and you can vote as many times you like. The winner will be announced on Lou Bezjak’s Twitter page on Thursday.

The nominees are listed below. Please note that these polls are not scientific and are meant to be just for fun.:

BOYS BASKETBALL NOMINEES

Arden Conyers, Westwood: Conyers was outstanding in two Westwood wins last week. He scored 21 points in an 84-56 win over Lugoff-Elgin and followed that up with 27 points in a 60-40 victory over Dreher.

Amari Evans, Hammond: The Skyhawks standout combined to score 40 points, including a 26-point effort, in two wins over Ben Lippen last week.

Gerald Gary, Cardinal Newman: The Cardinals played three games during the week with Gary leading the way offensively. He scored 56 points in the three games with his best effort being 26 points in a 73-64 loss to Gaston Christian (NC) on Saturday.

JD Gardner, Heathwood Hall: Gardner averaged 21 points in two games against Cardinal Newman last week, including a 29-point effort in the 53-49 win on Thursday.

Collin Murray-Boyles, A.C. Flora: Murray-Boyles saved his best for the highest-profile contest of the week. The junior big man scored 30 points to lead the No. 2 Falcons to a 60-55 win over No. 1 Irmo. He also had 15 points in a 45-36 win over Richland Northeast.

Cam Scott, Lexington: The outstanding sophomore continued his strong play with 28 points in a 60-40 victory over White Knoll in the Wildcats’ only game of the week.

Trai White, Gray Collegiate: The War Eagles won twice over Batesburg-Leesville during the week. White scored 26 points in the 86-34 victory on Tuesday.

Samaad Wright, Blythewood: The Bengals senior guard scored 23 points in a 64-63 win over Northwestern.

GIRLS BASKETBALL NOMINEES

Mya Carroll, Saluda: The 5-foot-5 senior guard scored 23 points to help Saluda hold on for a 57-55 victory over Eau Claire in the Tigers’ only game of the week.

Korletta Daniels, Westwood: The Redhawks junior guard scored 23 points to lead Westwood to a 62-35 victory over Dreher on Friday.

Jasmine Frierson, A.C. Flora: The sophomore had 16 points, seven rebounds, five assists in the Falcons’ only game of the week, a 71-12 win over Richland Northeast.

MiLaysia Fulwiley, Keenan: The junior had a quadruple-double of 25 points, 11 rebounds, 11 steals and 10 assists in a 71-24 win over Fairfield Central on Friday.

Samira Khalil, Hammond: The sophomore guard scored a game-high 18 points with five steals to lead the Skyhawks to a 53-36 win over Ben Lippen. It was Hammond’s only game of the week.

Kori Peterman, Dutch Fork: In two Silver Foxes’ wins last week, Peterman averaged 18.5 points per game. She had 22 points in an 84-18 win over White Knoll and followed that up with 15 points in an 87-20 victory over Chapin.

Ariana Wilkes, Spring Valley: The Vikings senior scored 20 points in a 73-47 victory over Ridge View. She dominated the paint and limited the Blazers opportunities inside.

Jenna Yanity, Lexington: The Wildcats only played once this past week, but Yanity came up huge with 19 points in the 78-22 victory over White Knoll.
