Vote for The State’s Midlands high school baseball and softball players of the year

It’s time to vote for The State’s Midlands softball and baseball Players of the Year. Voting ends at noon Wednesday, June 14 — and you can vote as many times as you like.

The winner will be announced next week along with The State newspaper’s softball and baseball all-area teams.

The nominees and polls are below. Please note that these polls are not scientific and are meant to be just for fun:

Softball Player of Year Nominees

Precious Bross, Irmo: Junior hit .522 with 5 home runs, 26 RBIs and stole 24 bases. Bross was Region 4-4A Player of Year, all-state selection and has committed to play at Georgia.

Lauren Hardy, Blythewood: Senior was 14-6 with 100 strikeouts as a pitcher. At the plate, she hit .330 with 5 home runs and 12 RBIs. Hardy was an all-state selection and signed with Indiana.

Amber Hughes, Mid-Carolina: Senior hit. 481 with 8 home runs and 25 RBIs in helping Mid-Carolina to first state championship appearance. As a pitcher, she had a 1.80 ERA and was Region 2-2A Player of the Year, all-state selection and signed to play at North Greenville.

Avery Ingram, Airport: Sophomore catcher hit .535 with a home run, 19 doubles and 24 RBIs. Ingram was an all-state selection.

Maddox Long, Gray Collegiate: Sophomore hit .452 with 6 home runs 35 RBIs and 8 doubles. As a pitcher, she struck out 50 in 39.2 innings.

Ella Majchrzak, Chapin: Junior pitcher/infielder/outfielder hit .384 with 25 RBIs this season. As a pitcher, Majchrzak had a 2.22 ERA with 113 strikeouts. She was an all-state selection and committed to Tusculum.

Reece Pickett, Lugoff-Elgin: Junior hit .333 with 7 home runs, 23 RBIs. As a pitcher, Pickett had a 1.38 ERA and had 90 strikeouts. Pickett was an all-state selection.

Karley Shelton, Lexington: The junior shortstop/pitcher hit .456 with 5 home runs, 35 RBIs, 12 doubles and five triples. As a pitcher, she was 6-2 with 58 strikeouts and a 2.35 ERA. Shelton was an all-state selection and committed to South Carolina.

Kiley Shelton, Lexington: Senior center fielder hit .489 with 10 home runs, 49 RBIs and 14 doubles. Shelton was an all-state selection and signed with Cornell.

Kiarra Thomas, Spring Valley: Senior pitcher/utlility player hit .464 with 8 homer runs, 33 RBIs and 7 doubles. Thomas also struck out 89 and had a save. She was an all-state, North-South game selection and signed with Converse College.

Baseball Player of Year Nominees

Cade Bouknight, Batesburg-Leesville: Senior hit .410 with 4 home runs and 26 RBIs this season. On the mound, Bouknight was 7-2 with a 1.63 ERA and 49 strikeouts in 55.2 innings pitched. He was an all-state selection, picked for North-South game and signed with USC Aiken.

Nolan Cook, Dreher: Senior was 12-3 with a save and 2.28 ERA. Cook struck out 100 batters and opponents hit .201 against him. He signed with Coker College.

Cobe Evans, Lugoff-Elgin: Region 5-4A Player of Year hit .419 with two homers, 23 RBI, 9 doubles and 20 stolen bases. Evans was an all-state and North-South game selection and Coker signee.

Tyler Floyd, Lexington: The senior hit .468 with 9 home runs, 23 RBIs and stole 31 bases. On the mound, Floyd was 2-0 with four saves and a 1.82 ERA. He was all-state, selected for North-South Select Game and signed with College of Charleston.

Beau Hollins, River Bluff: Hollins hit .445 with 18 home runs and 47 RBIs and was 4-0 as a pitcher. Hollins was an all-state selection and committed to play at South Carolina.

Grant Loggins, AC Flora: Senior was 4-0 with two saves and a 1.54 ERA. He struck out 85, walked just four in 40.2 innings pitched. Loggins was all-state, picked for North-South Select game and signed with South Carolina.

Jace Martin, Mid-Carolina: Senior was 8-1 with a 1.68 ERA and 81 strikeouts in 50 innings. Martin was all-state, North-South game selection and signed with Newberry.

Landon Penfield, Blythewood: Junior was 7-1 with a 1.85 ERA in 9 games. At the plate, he hit .391 with four home runs and 15 RBIs. Penfield was all-state selection and committed to play at College of Charleston.

Thomas Powell, River Bluff: The senior hit . 346 with 11 homers and 46 RBIs. As a pitcher, Powell was 7-1 with a 2.38 ERA. He was all-state, North-South Select Game selection and signed with South Carolina.

Brent Stukes, Gray Collegiate: The senior hit .319 with 25 RBIs, 12 stolen bases and seven doubles. On the mound, Stukes was 3-3 with a 2.12 ERA and 70 strikeouts in 56 innings. He was all-state, selected for North-South Select Game and signed with North Greenville.

Hayden Thomas, Brookland-Cayce: Senior hit .348 with 9 home runs and 34 RBI.s On the mound, Thomas was 7-0 with a 1.29 ERA and 86 strikeouts in 48.2 innings. He was all-state, selected for North-South Select Game and signed with College of Charleston.
