The winter high school sports season is over, but there are still a few Mid-Valley athletes to recognize for their postseason performances.

This week’s Statesman Journal Athlete of the Week nominees are:

  • Lizzy Bennett, West Salem basketball

  • Kyleigh Brown, Silverton basketball

  • Cruz Veliz, Woodburn basketball

  • Spencer Horne, Cascade basketball

Lizzy Bennett, West Salem basketball: She averaged 10 points, 5.3 rebounds, 1.7 assists, 2 blocks and 2.3 steals per game in the 6A state tournament to help the Titans place sixth.

Kyleigh Brown, Silverton basketball: She averaged 14 points per game for the Foxes in the 5A state tournament to help them place fourth.

Cruz Veliz, Woodburn basketball: He had 19 points in two 5A state tournament games for the Bulldogs.

Spencer Horne, Cascade basketball: He averaged 15 points per game in the state tournament, helping the Cougars win the 4A state championship.
