Eight student-athletes are up for this week's TCPalm Athlete of the Week vote for competitions during the week of Jan. 17-23.

Last week, Okeechobee basketball standout Morgan Tucker won the vote, earning over 68 of the vote with nearly 10,000 ballots cast.

Nominees are derived from scores and stats emailed in by area coaches during the week. Voting begins at noon each Monday and will close on Thursday at noon.

Coaches can email scores to bcooney@gannett.com or TCsports@tcpalm.com. The deadline for each night’s results is 10:30 p.m. Voting is restricted to once per device an hour.

DJ Leigh, Morningside Academy

Leigh had two games of 25 points on the week, including a game in which he hit a buzzer-beating 3-pointer to send the Eagles into overtime where they defeated Somerset Academy Key 74-73 on Jan. 18.

Kennedy Cannon, Centennial

Cannon had a monster week in four games played for the Eagles, but none bigger than the night she had on Jan. 21 as she put up 35 points, 30 rebounds and four blocks in a 66-59 overtime win over Fort Pierce Westwood. Cannon went for 16 points and 22 rebounds in a 42-20 win over Martin County on Jan. 18, 13 points and 13 rebounds in a 57-21 win over Treasure Coast on Jan. 19 and went for 12 points and 15 rebounds in a 61-48 loss to Cardinal Gibbons on Jan. 22.

Autumn Thomas, Lincoln Park Academy

Thomas scored nine points and grabbed 11 rebounds in a 55-53 Greyhound win over Fort Pierce Westwood on Jan. 19 and went for 16 points and 16 rebounds to help Lincoln Park defeat Treasure Coast 45-38 on Jan. 20.

Ceasar Andrade, Centennial

Andrade scored two goals and set up a third to help the Eagles defeat Okeechobee 5-0 on Jan. 18.

Valentina Breault, Treasure Coast

Breault netted a goal in each of the Titans’ two victories on the week, scoring in a 3-1 win over Centennial on Jan. 18 and in a 2-0 win over Fort Pierce Central on Jan. 20.

Jonny Dobbs, Jensen Beach

Making his season debut after returning from a knee injury, the defending 1A state champion at 126 pounds made a massive impact for the Falcons as he won all three of his matches in the regional quarterfinal on Jan. 21, and in the semifinal and state final on Jan. 22 to help Jensen Beach win the 1A state duals championship, the first time an area program has won state in the history of the event.

Mary Polak, Martin County

At the District 13-3A Championship on Saturday, Polak swept the titles at 154 pounds, putting up 150 pounds on the bench press, 180 pounds for the clean-and-jerk and 120 pounds in the snatch event.

Grace Wilson, Vero Beach

At the District 13-3A Championship on Saturday, Wilson put up 160 pounds on both the bench press and clean-and-jerk to win the traditional title and put up a new school record 135 pounds in the snatch to add another district title to her name in the 139-pound division.
