Vote for TCPalm's Athlete of the Week for Sept. 19-24
Nine student-athletes are up for this week's TCPalm Athlete of the Week poll for the week of Sept. 19-24.
Last week, Centennial volleyball standout Shayla Henry was voted Athlete of the Week receiving 56 percent of the ballot with South Fork cross country's Emerson Brinn finishing as the runner-up.
Coaches can email scores to bcooney@gannett.com or TCsports@tcpalm.com each night in order for athletes to be considered to be nominated each week.
This week, voting takes place beginning at noon Monday and will close Thursday at noon.
Nicholas Colbert, Jensen Beach
At Saturday's South Fork Bulldog Classic, Colbert won his fourth race in four events and set a personal best time of 16:07.3, over 12 seconds down from his prior best time this season.
Carrington Brown, St. Edward’s
At the SSAC Championship at Holloway Park in Lakeland on Saturday, Brown ran a personal best time of 21:58.91 to win the individual race and help the Pirates take the team championship.
Brynn Stoneburg, Jensen Beach
At the FSPA Invitational on Friday and Saturday, Stoneburg took race wins in the girls 200 and 500 freestyle and helped the 200 and 400 freestyle relay teams finish in third and fifth respectively.
Aiden Gaines, Fort Pierce Central
At the FSPA Invitational on Friday and Saturday, Gaines finished third in the boys' diving event with 305.15 points.
Grace Lee, Martin County
In two win for the Tigers during the week to add to their nine-match winning streak, Lee totaled 18 kills and 16 digs for the week including a 9-kill, 12-dig effort in a three-set win over Centennial on Thursday.
Jules Gentil, Morningside Academy
Gentil fired a 5-under 67 at the SSAC Championship on Saturday at Cleveland Heights Golf Course to finish as the individual runner-up.
Karen Becher, Pine School
Becher shot a 3-over 38 to lead the Knights a close defeat to St. Edward's on Tuesday.
Joel Ellis, Somerset College Prep
Ellis bowled a 266 game to lead the Spartans to a match victory over Vero Beach on Thursday.
Avari Fitzpatrick, South Fork
Fitzpatrick bowled a 191 game to lead the Bulldogs to a match win over Sebastian on Monday.
Local swimmers, divers shine at FSPA Invitational
Jensen Beach hosted the FSPA Invitational at Sailfish Splash Waterpark last Friday and Saturday and Falcon junior Brynn Stoneburg won two events in the girls’ events.
Stoneburg was victorious in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:52.02 and also took the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:57.14 to help Jensen Beach finish fifth as a team against some of the state’s top programs.
Jensen Beach’s 200 freestyle relay team with Stoneburg, Sophia Henderson, Melody McAfee and Ugne Koveraite finished third.
Jensen Beach senior Ayden Cason finished second in the boys’ 50 freestyle with a time of 21.71 and added a fifth place finish in the 100 freestyle.
Fort Pierce Central’s Aiden Gaines took third in boys’ diving for the Cobras.
South Fork senior diver Julia Hirt finished fourth in girls’ diving for the Bulldogs.
Morningside Academy wins boys golf SSAC championship
Morningside Academy's boys golf team won the SSAC Championship at Cleveland Heights Golf Course in Lakeland last Saturday.
The Eagles shot 289 as a team led by Jules Gentil shooting a 59 to finish second overall in the individual tournament.
Ryan Lue shot a 72, Owen Rogers carded a 73 and Dylan Barberios shot a 77 for Morningside.
