Vote today for county, JP3 judges

May 24—With no Democratic candidates having filed for either office, today's runoff election in the Republican Primary will decide Johnson County's next county judge and next Precinct 3 justice of the peace judge. Both will be new to their respective offices, County Judge Roger Harmon and JP 3 Judge Pat Jacobs having decided not to seek reelection.

In the county judge race, Christopher Boedeker faces John Harmon. John Harmon, although he shares the last name, is not related to Roger Harmon.

In the JP 3 race, Andy Nolan faces Wes Powell.

Boedeker and Harmon emerged from the four-candidate March Republican Primary in which neither received the required 51 percent of the vote to avoid a runoff.

Nolan and Powell experienced the same in a then three-candidate race.

Boedeker serves as an assistant county attorney and as a member of the Cleburne City Council.

Harmon has worked in real estate and other professions.

Harmon expressed a desire to see U.S. 360 extended into Johnson County and other infrastructure needs addressed if elected.

Boedeker pegged growth as Johnson County's current biggest issue and vowed to address infrastructure, law enforcement, financial and other issues as they relate to that growth if elected while at the same time planning so as to maintain the county's unique character and small town feel.

Nolan is an attorney and a sergeant with the Fort Worth Police Department having also served as patrol officer and detective of that department.

Powell served 20 years in the U.S. Navy followed by 22 years as a police officer including 16 with the Johnson County Precinct 3 Constable's Office.

Voter turnout in the runoff was low during the early voting period, which ran May 16-20.

Of the 113,647 eligible voters in the county, only 12,733 voted.
