Tulare County athlete of the week: CVC's Bryce Crook

Central Valley Christian High School baseball player Bryce Crook was voted by readers as the Visalia Times-Delta Tulare County prep athlete of the week.

In an online poll that closed on April 7, Crook received 2,595 votes, or a 36.6% majority, of the 7,104 responses.

Crook had five hits, including a double, and finished with two runs, four RBI and two stolen bases to lead the Cavaliers to a win over Minarets at the Fowler Easter Classic. Crook's five hits set a new tournament record for most hits in a single game.

Here are the choices for the week of April 3-7:

  • Karly Aguilar, softball, Golden West: Aguilar hurled nine strikeouts in six innings to pilot the Trailblazers to an 11-3 win over Torres-Madera. She also recorded a hit, three runs and a pair of RBI.

  • Bryce Crook, baseball, Central Valley Christian: Crook had five hits, including a double, and finished with two runs, four RBI and two stolen bases to lead the Cavaliers to a win over Minarets at the Fowler Easter Classic. Crook's five hits set a new tournament record for most hits in a single game.

  • Ashley Espino, softball, El Diamante: Espino went 3-for-4 hitting and knocked in a pair of runs in a non-league game against Mission Oak.

  • Mason Hatton, softball, Tulare Union: Hatton had two hits and a pair of RBI as the Tribe downed Independence-Bakersfield 3-2 in 12 innings.

  • Carson Hughes, baseball, Exeter: Hughes earned the win on the mound after throwing seven strikeouts in five innings. The Monarchs defeated Corcoran 10-0. Hughes also generated three hits, two runs, and two RBI as a batter.

  • Adison Lee, softball, Tulare Western: Lee fired five strikeouts in a complete game to direct the Mustangs to a 9-3 victory versus Reedley. She also had a hit and scored a pair of runs.

  • Elijah Martinez, baseball, El Diamante: Martinez hit a walk-off single to seal the Miners' 3-2 eight-inning win over Mt. Whitney in an East Yosemite League game. Martinez finished with two hits, a run and RBI.

  • Leah Moreno, softball, Dinuba: Moreno tossed six strikeouts in five innings to help the Emperors beat Fresno 11-0. She also had two hits in two at-bats.

  • Adam Sims, baseball, Tulare Union: Sims threw 12 strikeouts in 6 1/3 innings to pilot the Tribe to a win over Dinuba. He also had a double and scored a run as a hitter.

  • Louie Torres, baseball, Porterville: Torres drove in the game-winning run to help the Panthers beat Golden West 6-5 in an EYL game. He finished with a single and double.

  • Joey Volchko, baseball, Redwood: Volchko fanned 14 Monache batters in the Rangers' 8-0 East Yosemite League win. He allowed one hit in six innings.

Nominations are based on information available to the Times-Delta.

All high school varsity players from Tulare County can be on the ballot. Nominations must be received for consideration by Monday morning following that week's games.
