Update: Athlete of the week, Redwood's Brody Block

Redwood High School baseball player Brody Block was voted by readers as the Visalia Times-Delta Tulare County prep athlete of the week.

In an online poll that closed on May 20, Block received 1,237 votes, or a 43.5% majority, of the 2,851 responses.

Block was one of the team's top hitters this season, batting .345 with 18 RBIs while helping the Rangers win a West Yosemite League championship.

All high school varsity players from Tulare County are eligible to be placed on the ballot. Nominations must be received by Monday morning following that week's games for consideration.

Here are the choices for the week of May 9-13:

  • Julissa Avila, girls track and field, Farmersville. Avila won the 1,600- and 3,200 meter titles at the 2022 Central Section Division IV championship meet.

  • Brody Block, baseball, Redwood. Block was one of the team's top hitters this season, batting .345 with 18 RBIs while helping the Rangers win a West Yosemite League championship.

  • Kaream Davis, boys track and field, Mission Oak. Davis placed first in the 100 meters at the 2022 Central Section Division III championship meet.

  • Raelyn Dewitt, girls track and field, Exeter. Dewitt came in first in the 400 meters at the 2022 Central Section D-III championships.

  • Isabella Flores, girls track and field, El Diamante. Flores captured two individual crowns at the 2022 Central Section Division II championships, winning the 200- and 400-meter races.

  • Marcus Mederos, boys track and field, Tulare Western. An East Yosemite League champion in the 4x100 relays, Mederos competed in three events at the 2022 Central Section D-II championship meet.

  • Josh Noeske, boys track and field, Central Valley Christian. Noeske, a senior, won the 2022 Central Section D-IV title in the 400 meters.

  • David Orozco, boys track and field, Lindsay. Orozco turned in a first-place performance in the 400-meter dash at the 2022 Central Section D-III final.

Anyone (coaches, parents, teammates, teachers, friends, etc.) can nominate an athlete of the week for every sport.

Nominations are based on information made available to the Times-Delta. Please include statistics and a photo with your submission.
