Vote for this week's News Herald Athlete of the Week for Jan. 17-22

It's again time to vote for The Panama City News Herald Athlete of the Week for the week of Jan. 17-22.

Nominees are derived from scores and stats emailed in by area coaches during the week. Voting begins each Monday at noon and closes at 10 a.m. Thursday. The winner will be posted at newsherald.com/sports on Friday afternoon and in Saturday's print edition of the News Herald.

Boys basketball

Antonio Morgan, senior guard, Rutherford High School. Morgan averaged 27.7 points per game over three outings for the Rams, including a 38-point effort in a 79-61 victory over Fort Walton Beach.

Joe Carpenter, senior guard, Bozeman. Carpenter averaged 27.3 points in three games for the Bucks, all victories, including a 41-point effort in a 97-56 win over Ponce de Leon that came just two points shy of his career high.

Girls basketball

Shakirah Edwards, sophomore guard, Rutherford High School. Edwards averaged 21.5 points on 54.8 percent shooting from the field and 7 of 10 from the 3-point line, 10.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists, 2.5 steals, and 4.5 blocks in two games for the Rams.

Laylah Davis, sophomore guard, Arnold High School. Davis averaged 16 points per game in three outings for the Marlins, all wins, making 13 of 22 from the 3-point line, as well 5.7 rebounds and 2.7 steals per game.

Girls soccer

Haile Hallmon, senior midfielder, Mosley High School. Hallmon had three goals and three assists over two victories for the Dolphins, scoring a goal and providing two assists against Fort Walton Beach, and then scoring twice with one assist against South Walton.

Zoe Looker, junior midfielder, Arnold High School. Looker scored two goals and provided two assists in each of her games for the Marlins last week against Rocky Bayou Christian and Milton.

Wrestling

Romero Black, junior, Rutherford High School. Black finished first in the 138-pound division at the George Mulligan Memorial Tournament, going 3-0 with all three wins coming by fall to improve his record to 26-1 on the season.

Derrick Williams, sophomore, Mosley High School. Williams finished first in the 106-pound division at the George Mulligan Memorial tournament, going 5-0 with all five wins coming by fall to improve his record to 38-3 on the season.
