Vote for the Ultimate Athlete of the Week for the 2021-22 school year

It's again time to vote for The Panama City News Herald Athlete of the Week for the week of Nov. 8-13.

Nominees are derived from scores and stats emailed in by area coaches during the week. Voting begins each Monday at noon and closes at 10 a.m. Thursday. The winner will be posted at newsherald.com/sports on Friday afternoon and in Saturday's print edition of the News Herald.

Football, Offense

Casey Boyd, senior running back, Mosley. Boyd rushed 24 times for 267 yards and two touchdowns in the Dolphins' 52-35 playoff victory over Gulf Breeze. He also had two receptions for 35 yards.

Football, Defense

Jordan Whitely, senior linebacker, Mosley High School. Whitely had eight tackles, including a tackle for loss and a sack, with a forced fumble and a recovered fumble in the win over Gulf Breeze.

Volleyball

Marley Middlebrooks, sophomore outside hitter, Mosley High School. Middlebrooks had 10 kills, a block, and an ace with 16 digs and 11 serve receives in the Dolphins' state semifinal victory over Vanguard.

Swimming

Mason Gonczol, sophomore, Mosley High School. Gonczol took a seventh place finish in the Boys 100 Backstroke at the 3A State Championships in Stuart with a time of 53.48 seconds. He also took 14th in the 100 Butterfly at 52.84 seconds and was part of the Dolphins' eighth-place finish in the Boys Freestyle Relay.

Girl soccer

Emily Djagbare, senior, Arnold High School. Djagbare totaled five goals and three assists in two games, a pair of 8-0 wins over Marianna and Milton. Her best outing came in the season opener against Marianna when she scored four goals and had an assist.

Boys soccer

Carter Cole, North Bay Haven. Cole had three goals and an assist in a pair of victories over Milton and Bozeman. Cole scored one goal in the season opener against Milton and added two goals and an assist in an 8-0 victory over the Bucks.
