Voter cards being sent out for Galesburg residents. What you need to know

Galesburg’s 17,300 registered voters can expect their new voter cards in the mail shortly, as the City of Galesburg began mailing them out last Wednesday.

Illinois law requires new voter cards to be mailed via the U.S. Postal Service this year.

The new cards provide important voting information and ensure that each voter still lives where they are registered to vote. Voters are encouraged to review new voter cards to confirm their current polling place sites and precinct numbers.

The voter card serves as a reminder or notice of each person's polling place location and the districts they can vote in based on where they live. These steps are part of the ongoing maintenance of the city voter database per Illinois laws.

A registered voter whose voter card is undeliverable by the USPS will be sent a forward able address confirmation final notice letter following Illinois law.

Galesburg’s voter database was also cross-checked with the U.S.P.S. National Change of Address database last December and April by the Illinois State Board of Elections.

The addresses for 424 registered voters in the City of Galesburg have been automatically updated following Illinois law. Precinct 16 will relocate within the Bethel Baptist Church polling place site.

The next election in the City of Galesburg will be the 2024 Presidential Primary next March. Registered voters who applied to be on the optional permanent vote-by-mail list and provided a party preference will be automatically mailed a ballot Feb. 8.
