Voter Tent Erected In Somerville For Primary Election Ballots

SOMERVILLE, NJ — A special tent has been erected for voters who may have not received a ballot and still wish to vote in the Republican and Democratic primaries on Tuesday.

"Since the general public is not allowed in the Administration Building due to COVID we have set up this tent for voters to be able to come in person to get a ballot and vote without the risk of transmitting diseases," said Somerset County Clerk Steve Peter.

The 20-foot by 30-foot tent is located at Veterans Plaza next to the Administration Building at 20 Grove St. in Somerville. The tent is laid out to allow for staff and voters to be socially distant while applying for and filling out ballots. The tent is also air-conditioned, as well.

Voters just need to bring in their identification and must wear a mask. Voters will then be given a ballot, which is the same as a mail-in ballot, to be filled out and then dropped off in the drop box or mailed. The tent is open until 4 p.m. on Monday and 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday.

The ballots will be accepted, by law, if received by July 14. Ballots will begin to be counted on Tuesday and certified by July 24.
