A new generation

Note: The author is the former first lady of South Carolina.

Would anyone choose a foul-mouthed, narcissistic, woman-shaming bully to serve as their family doctor, advisor, minister or representative?

Then why in the world would one choose such a person for president?

I believe character and integrity matter.

We have an opportunity to speak up in South Carolina and to pick a confident, graceful and knowledgeable leader in Nikki Haley.

She served us well as governor and she is the new generation of leader our country needs.

Nikki will solve our border crisis, curtail spending to bring inflation down, bring peace through strength, keep taxes low and drive economic growth higher while respecting all Americans.

Imagine a president who respects our military, and our women, and one who is coherent and makes sense.

Any registered voter in South Carolina can vote for Nikki in the primary, so long as they did not already vote on Feb. 3.

Your vote in the primary will send Trump a message and move Nikki forward.

Let’s make our voices heard between now and Feb. 24.

Won’t support Trump

I am a staunch conservative who has “voted Republican” for over 40 years.

This year’s general election, if Trump is the Republican presidential candidate, will be different.

Trump’s long standing lack of respect and open disdain for our military is insulting to the men and women who risk their lives daily for our country.

It should anger every American.

Trump’s comments in 2015 about John McCain were appalling.

His general disdain for our military in 2018 when he reportedly called our fallen veterans “losers” and “suckers” was horrifying.

His reluctance to be seen with wounded veterans because of appearance, disgusting.

And Trump’s recent rants about Nikki Haley’s husband Michael: “What happened to her husband? Where is he? He’s gone” were totally unhinged. Michael, as most know, is currently deployed to one of the most dangerous regions in the world.

Trump’s long standing, open and vocal disdain for our military should make him unelectable, if not in the Republican primary, then certainly in the general election in November.

Disastrous foreign policy

Nikki Haley is an opportunist, no real talent, and not very deep . . . just a neocon promoting entanglements in foreign conflicts that do not imperil U.S. national security, but only promote the military industrial complex and the hordes of neocons pushing for think tank jobs or to feed from the trough.

Her foreign policy record is a disaster.

Eisenhower would not allow her to shine his shoes.

No trust for Haley

I voted for Nikki Haley twice as an independent voter helping her get elected.

Now that she’s running for president I’ve watched her continuously fault former president Donald Trump and President Joe Biden saying they are too old to run for office.

Haley is guilty of age discrimination and lying saying Trump is in his 80s when the man is two years older than me, making him 77 years old. He will be 78 when reelected.

Haley recently blasted Trump saying he dishonored all we veterans for asking where her husband was.

She went on to say that South Carolina takes excellent care of its veterans, which is another overblown.

As a 100% disabled Marine Vietnam veteran I appreciate the exemptions I get on my home and vehicles, but being taken care of is not totally true.

I went to my elected officials in Washington asking for help when the VA refused to reimburse for two toilets and a shower I needed to manage my disabilities.

They wanted me to wait three months for an appointment, which I physically couldn’t do considering that would make me suffer needlessly.

I didn’t get the care I was entitled to. I know I can’t be alone.
