The bond issue garnered 17,724 "yes" votes and 5,698 "no" votes.

A 57% majority was required for approval. No property tax increase is connected with any bond issues in Boone County. The margin was 76% in favor and 24% opposed.

"The community has always supported the school district, and I'm happy that it is continuing," said Superintendent Brian Yearwood on Tuesday night.

The projects in the bond issue will benefit teachers, administrators, students and parents, he said.

He wants to build on the public support to create a better school district, he said.

"I'm super happy about that," school board member Blake Willoughby, who won a second term Tuesday, said of the bond issue.

The bond issue will allow the district to respond to growth and better meet the needs of students, he said.

The CPS proposal includes two new elementary schools, costing $25 and $28 million, with the construction of the first, least expensive school on the property of John Warner Middle School starting in June. Construction on the second elementary school is planned to start in June 2024.
