Republican U.S. Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks, a first-term incumbent from Ottumwa, is being challenged by Democratic state Rep. Christina Bohannan, a University of Iowa law professor from Iowa City. The winner of this race will serve Iowa's 1st Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives for a single term of two years.

Johnson County is included in the 1st Congressional District, which covers a large swath of southeastern Iowa, including Davenport, Iowa City, Burlington and Clinton and stretches east to Warren and Jasper counties near Des Moines.

Democrat Janice Weiner, an Iowa City Councilor and former U.S. diplomat, is running against Republican Harold Weilbrenner of Iowa City for a four-year term.
