In a series of stops planned following President Joe Biden's State of the Union Address on Tuesday, Vice President Kamala Harris is expected to stop in St. Cloud on Thursday.

There are few details yet, other than that Harris is expected to speak about electric vehicle usage.

The city hosted Recharge St. Cloud Electric Vehicle Expo last summer. Attendees had the chance to test drive electric vehicles, peruse recent models and ask questions about vehicle specs, the charging process and rebate opportunities.

"The idea here is to engage with communities who are most at risk of being left behind in the ... transition − who maybe haven't been at the conversation table about EV infrastructure or (are) on the outskirts of sort of the well-funded pockets of the metro area," Recharge America lead program strategist Tina Malott said ahead of the event.

At the expo, attendees test drove a Chevy Bolt, Volkswagen ID4, Tesla Model Y, Tesla Model S, Polestar 2, Nissan Leaf and BMW i4.

The planned visit from Harris is part of a "blitz" in which Biden and other cabinet members are expected to travel to at least 20 states on Wednesday and Thursday to talk about his economic agenda.

“During the State of the Union, President Biden will outline how the past two years has seen historic job growth, falling inflation, higher wages, and record investments coming back to America,” the White House said. “The economic travel blitz showcases how the president’s vision is creating jobs, rebuilding our infrastructure, lowering costs for families, tackling climate change, investing in our future and delivering for families too often left behind.”
