VSP: One dead in Highland County crash
HIGHLAND COUNTY — Virginia State Police said one person was killed early Wednesday morning in a vehicle crash in Highland County, according to a press release.
Police said 76-year-old Earl M. Mayfield, of Charlton Heights, West Virginia, was behind the wheel of a 2018 Ford F-150 pickup when he crashed on Va. 84, four miles west of Va. 600. The crash took place at 12:15 a.m.
Mayfield was headed eastbound when the pickup crossed the centerline, ran off the left side of the road and hit a tree, police said.
He died at the scene.
The fatal crash remains under investigation.
