Virginia University To Hold Career Expo With 105+ Companies, Also Open To The Public

Virginia State University's next Career Expo will be happening on Tuesday, February 13th in VSU's multipurpose center (20809 2nd Ave) from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Career Expo is open to the public and will include more than 105 companies actively looking to hire students for internships as well as community members at large for part-time and full-time positions. Attendees are encouraged to bring their resumes to share with prospective employers.

Petersburg Public Library To Hold Black History Month Book Signing Expo

In celebration of Black History Month, the Petersburg Public Library will hold a Book Signing Expo for Black authors on Saturday, February 10th from 1 to 4 p.m. The event, a collaboration between the City of Petersburg and Resist Booksellers, will feature New York Times bestselling author Amina Luqman-Dawson and include over two dozen other local authors. Attendees will have the opportunity to hear the authors speak about their work and purchase signed copies of their books.

“Events like this bring the community together to appreciate and celebrate the Black experience through the written word," said Luqman-Dawson ahead of the event on Saturday. "As learning about our history and lived experiences is being challenged around the country through book bans, it is more important than ever that Petersburg continues to shine a light on the value of African American authors."

In addition to Luqman-Dawson, authors Tracy-Owens Sommers, Deloris Jordan, Larry Smith, Charles Lee, Jill Coleman, Belinda Ward, Savannah Jackson, Ariel Brown, JW Hill, Rita Wray Miller, J’Ana Price, Klayton Bonner, Dana Griffin-Graves, Crystal Sauls, Dr. Portia Miller, Danielle Bell, Dr. Brandon Kimble, Leona Haywood, Tieste Williams, Dr. Rebecca Branch-Griffin, Tia Palmer, Kia Dupree, Patrice Jones, Andrea Rose Butler, Natasha Bishop, Kerwyn Phillip and Shania Lewis will also be present at the event.

Valentine Family Craft Night at Rohoic Library

Rohoic Library will be hosting an early Valentines Day event this Wednesday, February 7th starting at 5:30 p.m. at the library. The event, a family craft night to make Valentines Day gifts for loved ones, is free of charge and will feature friendship bracelet and key chain making as well as stained glass heart painting. Attendees are encouraged to bring the whole family for a night of crafting and family fun.

Traffic Alerts for Feb. 5 to Feb. 9

PETERSBURG – The following is a list of roadwork that may affect traffic in the Petersburg transportation district throughout the coming weeks. Scheduled work is subject to change due to inclement weather and material supplies. Motorists are advised to watch for slow-moving tractors during mowing operations. When traveling through a work zone, be alert to periodic changes in traffic patterns and lane closures.

DAYTIME RAMP CLOSURE FROM ROUTE 301 (SOUTH CRATER ROAD) TO I-95 SCHEDULED IN PETERSBURG, WEDNESDAY FEB 7, 7 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Weather permitting, the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will implement a ramp closure from Route 301 (South Crater Road) northbound to I-95 southbound/Route 460 eastbound, for paving work. The work is scheduled to occur Wednesday, Feb. 7 from 7 a.m. until 4 p.m.

Drivers should follow the posted detour route:

  • Continue on Route 301 (South Crater Road)/Crater North, turn left on East Washington Street, take left exit ramp towards I-95 southbound.
