W-B City Yard Waste and curbside collection scheduled for Apr. 1

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Wilkes-Barre City announced that curbside garbage pickup for this week has been rescheduled to next Monday, as the Department of Public Works (DPW) will be closed in observance of “Good Friday.”

According to Wilkes-Barre City, the DPW will be closed on Friday, March 29, in observance of Good Friday, however, City Hall will be open on Friday.

The City says the garbage and recycling curbside collection scheduled for Friday has been rescheduled for Monday, April 1.

According to Wilkes-Barre Mayor George C. Brown’s office, the city calendar holiday collection schedule incorrectly says that the pickup type for this week is paper and cardboard when it is garbage and cans/bottles/plastic recycling.

Yard Waste curbside collection for residents of Wilkes-Bare City is also scheduled for Monday, April 1 and residents are advised to place yard waste curbside on their weekly collection day.

Officials say the yard waste will only be accepted in yard waste bins or paper yard waste bags, to which there is a limit of 5 bags/bins per household.

Wilkes-Barre residents can also drop off their bagged/binned yard waste at the DPW Yard, located at 3 Conyngham Avenue, Wilkes-Barre, on weekdays, excluding holidays, from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. starting on Monday, April 1.

DPW specified that “yard waste” includes leaf waste, garden residue, grass clippings, wood waste, garden waste and sod,

City officials added that tree clippings, tree branches and trunks, dirt, mulch, and bundled yard waste products WILL NOT be collected.
