Wade becomes fourth sister to choose Southwestern Christian

Dec. 25—Whitney Wade has been around the Outlaws gym with her three sisters. Now, she will join the family tradition of going to Southwestern Christian as the fourth sister to play at the college.

Whitney will join Jenna Wade and Lauren Wade who are currently attending the school. The oldest, Hannah Wade, graduated from the Eagles to become a legacy at the university.

The current senior at Marlow High School averaged 13.8 points per game in her junior season. Whitney Wade is currently averaging 14.8 points per game through four games in her senior year.

Her current coach is Brett Tahah, and Tahah's husband, Scott, coached during Whitney's junior season. Tahah said it was an exciting time to have another sister heading to Bethany to play for the Eagles.

"Whitney is the epitome of what we want our Lady Outlaws to be. She is a great teammate and a great leader," Tahah said. "She makes good grades and I know that she is going to continue doing that at Southwestern Christian and so we are incredibly proud of her."

So far in the four games, her season high has been 23 points against Bridge Creek and her coach for her senior season has said that Whitney has transformed into a better player than ever.

"She just continued to morph into a better leader this year which is something that we need with this group," Tahah said. "She is a leader on and off the court and is a heck of a ball player that is going to continue to improve and do great things this year."

An alum at Oklahoma City University and having coming from the conference rival of Southwestern Christian, Tahah said anyone who goes to the next level is something to be proud of.

"It is exciting as always anytime you can go play at the next level, because not very many people get to do that," Brett Tahah said. "I'm super excited for her and I'm glad she is going to a good program and University and I'm just looking forward to finishing off the rest of the season."

As the point guard for the Lady Outlaws in her senior season, Whitney Wade said the signing was exciting and loves that she's received the opportunity to play basketball at college.

"It is an exciting experience that is something you always wished for and hoped for, so getting the opportunity to go to play at next level is exciting," Whitney Wade said. "I have worked all summer for this and you just feel really rewarded for all that hard work."

Going to Southwestern Christian where her sisters before her have played in the same gym makes Whitney feel comfortable. It feels like a second home to the senior at Marlow.

"It is comfortable. It is at an ease and I'm not as worried and will have someone to rely on," Whitney Wade said. "I know the coach pretty well because I have been around him and I just feel at home sort of. To have a sister there is like a second home for me."

Her sister, Lauren, will graduate at the end of the season, so Whitney will only get a chance to play with Jenna starting next season.

"Me and my sister have already played here in Marlow for two years so it is exciting to have that experience again," Whitney Wade said. "I thought it was going to be my last time and was going to have to say my goodbyes again, but knowing I have another chance — it will be a lot of fun and I'm excited for the opportunity to be around her everyday and continue to keep playing with her. She pushes me to be better and there is always a competition between us ... so I think it will be fun to have my sister there."

The next game for Whitney Wade will take place at the Idabel Winter Classic as the Lady Outlaws play at 10 a.m. Dec. 27 against Hooks High School in the first game of the tournament for all of the teams.
