Waders from missing boater Tyler Doyle found in NC. What is this duck hunting equipment?

Hunting waders, a wallet and duck decoys believed to belong to missing boater Tyler Doyle were recovered near Ocean Isle Beach, North Carolina, according to two Facebook posts.

The Surf City, N.C. Police Department posted Monday on Facebook that duck decoys, which are life-sized models of ducks used to lure birds, were found near Sunset and Ocean Isle Beach.

The hunting waders and wallet were said to have been found two miles from shore, wrote wife Lakelyn Doyle on Tuesday night.

The items, called chest waders, look like overalls with attached boots. The waterproof material allows duck hunters to maneuver in shallow water without getting cold.

Bill Kroll, firearms specialist at Bass Pro Shops in the Myrtle Beach mall, said that if a hunter’s waders fill up with water, “then you have a very difficult time staying afloat. If the water is over your head, you’re probably going to sink to the bottom.”

Doyle’s waders were found without Doyle, which might indicate that he was not wearing them at the time.

The Loris man went missing Thursday evening while hunting in a 16-foot jon boat. The U.S. Coast Guard said the 23-year-old was last seen wearing a camouflage jacket and khaki pants.

The Coast Guard suspended their search Friday evening after 45 hours. South Carolina Department of Natural Resources, which took control of the investigation, and volunteers continue to search waters and beaches from North Myrtle Beach up into North Carolina.
