Wadsworth advances over 20 graduates from class of 2022 to college athletics

Wadsworth Athletic Director Brad Musgrave announced that over 20 members of the class of 2022 have finalized their college academic and athletic plans.

The group of Wadsworth graduates features five baseball players, including John Allen (University of Akron), Matt Thompson (Youngstown State University), Drew Mason (Hiram College), Skyler Kries (Cuyahoga Community College) and Ben Sigler (Malone University).

Allen, a left-handed pitcher, earned Division I All-Ohio and All-Northeast District first-team honors as a senior. He won seven games, lost one, had 94 strikeouts in 54 innings, compiled a school-record 0.39 ERA and hitters batted .098 against him.

Wadsworth wrestling teammates Mason Brugh and David Shue are set to continue their careers on the mat with Brugh going to Ohio University and Shue headed to Lake Erie College.

Brugh finished sixth in the Division I state tournament at 126 pounds as a senior to help Wadsworth finish fourth in the team standings.

All-stars on the mat:Meet the nominees for boys wrestling for the Greater Akron High School Sports Awards

The Wadsworth football and boys soccer programs are each sending three graduates from the class of 2022 to a college team.

Conner Frisby is set to play football at Walsh University, and Michael Lally and Michael Swanson are slated to suit up for Hiram College.

The boys soccer players advancing to the next level are Jackson Kerley at Baldwin-Wallace University, Kam Wagner at Walsh University and Mason White at Thiel College.

Wadsworth 2022 graduates Ciena Matheny and Ky’Sonna Won have committed to play college basketball at Mount Union and Siena Heights, respectively.

The other Wadsworth graduates committed to an athletic team are: Arianna Kaser (California University of Pennsylvania, golf); Connor Sams (Mount Union, basketball); Rachel Murphy (Indiana Wesleyan, cross country and track); Ryan Polack (Earlham, lacrosse); Lainey Jackson (Mount Vernon Nazarene, lacrosse) and Valaree Stupak (Malone, softball).
