Netflix's drama The Crown is required viewing among royal fans. The hit series will return for its highly-anticipated third season on November 17 and will feature a brand new cast to bring the next chapter in the British royal family's story to life.

However, there's an important question on many monarchists' minds: Will Season 3 introduce the People's Princess herself, Princess Diana? Let's dig in.

What time period will The Crown Season 3 cover?

According to the show's producers, the third season of The Crown will focus on the Wilson Era and will cover the time period from roughly 1964 through 1977.

Diana first met Prince Charles in November of 1977, which led many fans (and some in the press) to speculate that she might make a small appearance at the tail end of The Crown's third chapter.

Will Princess Diana Be in The Crown Season 3?

The short answer, when we get right down to it, is no, Princess Diana will not appear in this upcoming installment of The Crown.

In an interview with Vanity Fair, The Crown's casting director, Nina Gold, officially shot down the rumor that Lady Di would make her debut at the end of the drama's third season.

"Diana’s not in this season," Gold said. "When we do get to her, that is going to be pretty interesting."

When will Princess Diana show up on The Crown?

Don't worry: You can't tell the story of the British royal family in the '80s and '90s without Princess Diana and she will definitely be a part of the series starting in Season 4.

When she does arrive, she plays a huge role in the story, as Gold promised.

Because The Crown's producers opted to film Seasons 3 and 4 back-to-back, set photos featuring the show's take on Princess Di are already making the rounds online, and the casting is spot-on.

Who will play Princess Diana on The Crown?

Diana will be portrayed in the series by Emma Corrin, who is a relative newcomer and only had four casting credits—at least, according to IMDb—before being nabbed for The Crown.

It's easy to see why producers tapped the 23-year-old actress to play Diana though—she's a dead ringer for the iconic royal.

So, to recap: Princess Diana will not appear in The Crown Season 3, but the pictures we've seen so far of her arc in Season 4 suggest her eventual debut will be well worth the wait.
