Wake elementary school teacher suspended after allegedly insulting students in note

A Wake County elementary school teacher has been suspended for allegedly writing insulting comments about students.

WRAL first reported Friday that a handwritten note from a fifth-grade teacher at York Elementary School in Raleigh used obscenities and disparaging comments to describe some students. The note calls some students lazy and includes comments about a student’s pimples.

WRAL said the list was found by students in a teacher’s notebook.

“I’m writing to provide you an update about an incident that you may see in the news or on social media involving comments allegedly written by a teacher at our school,” Kate Williams, York’s principal, wrote in a message Friday to families. “I want to share that this teacher has been suspended while the district conducts an investigation into this matter.

“While privacy laws limit the amount of information we can share regarding personnel, I wanted to assure you that we are aware of the situation and are taking it seriously.”

Williams doesn’t name the teacher in the letter.
