Wren senior defensive back Travon West has committed to Wake Forest football.

West, a three-star recruit, announced his decision via Twitter on Sunday.

In June, West committed to Indiana but reopened his recruitment in October. Since then, West announced visits to Georgia Tech and Wake Forest.

Wake Forest will get a superior athlete with range and length at 6-foot, and 170 pounds. This season, West has stepped up in more ways than one for the Hurricanes.

West has been needed to play a bit at running back and he seamlessly transitioned over to the position he grew up playing as a youth. In his first game taking carries, West rushed for 225 yards and three touchdowns against T.L. Hanna.

"He's a special talent," Wren coach Jeff Tate said earlier this season. "Got exceptional speed, as everybody knows, but he's a tough kid, a smart kid."

West has scored a touchdown rushing, receiving and on a punt return. On defense, West has nine pass breakups with 49 tackles. He's also serves as one of the team captains.

As a junior, West had five interceptions with 57 and three rushing touchdowns.

West shines on the track and field, too. Last year he won an individual state championship in the 110-meter hurdles by finishing in 14.98 seconds and helped Wren win the AAA state title.
