Waldron Senior Jena Fellabaum named 2022-23 MIVCA Grant recipient
WALDRON — Senior student-athlete Jena Fellabaum closed out her final season of winter sports for Waldron Spartan Athletics. The senior has been a multi-sport athlete for the Spartans for almost all of her academic career. This fall, she participated in her final season of volleyball for the Spartans. As the senior continues her journey towards completing her athletic and academic career for the Spartans, she was named a recipient of an award grant by one of the largest prep sports organizations in Michigan.
The Michigan Interscholastic Volleyball Coaches Association named Jena Fellabaum as one of the awarded recipients of the MIVCA Grant for 2022-23. The MIVCA announces six athletes each year to receive the Grant award. "This grant is awarded to senior daughters and/or sons of MIVCA members who demonstrate leadership, character and outstanding academic performance throughout their high school career," said the MIVCA in a press release.
Fellabaum is among six other Grant recipients and six scholarship recipients that were announced for the 2022-23 school year. Aiden Criteser of Dakota, Saylor Cuthrell of Cass City, Gabrielle VerBerkmoes of McBain, Morgan Wrich of Shelby and Paige Slone of Fraser were named the other grant recipients. The scholarship recipients this year include Aubree Garcia of Mt. Pleasant, Abigail Gilmore of Blissfield, Carly Andros of Fowler, Hannah Cooper of Chesaning, Lauren Martus of North Branch and Megan Bricker of Pellston.
Jena Fellabaum has been an all-conference and all-area dream team volleyball recipient during her athletic career. This past basketball season, she helped lead the Spartans to an 11-11 overall record and a first-place finish in the SCAA Central. Fellabaum is also a talented softball player and will be playing her final season for the Spartans this spring. The season begins at the end of March, with league games starting in April.
