Walgreens to close Manchester store; chain could lose more stores this year

ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. – Popular pharmacy chain Walgreens is planning to shut down one St. Louis-area store in the near future. The company could reportedly close as many as 150 U.S. stores this year.

Walgreens will close its Manchester location at 14529 Manchester Road on Feb. 28. “We have no other announcements at this time,” a company spokesperson stated in an email to FOX 2.

Walgreens operates dozens of stores between Missouri and Illinois, including dozens in the St. Louis metropolitan area. It doesn’t appear any other regional locations are closing at this time.

According to reports from CNN, Supermarket News and others, the company announced last year that it expects to close around 150 U.S. stores by August 2024 in cost-saving efforts.

Within the last few days, Walgreens has also announced stores closing in Rockford, Illinois, and Boise, Idaho.
