The Walgreens pharmacy on Dinah Shore and Bob Hope drives in Rancho Mirage has been temporarily closed due to staffing shortages, but the company says it will reopen Saturday with reduced operating hours for the next few days.

Callers heard an automated message on Friday alerting them that the pharmacy was temporarily closed. Palm Desert resident Burton Wahlquist said he has been trying to pick up his prescriptions at the Rancho Mirage store for over a week. He also had difficulty using the automated pharmacy services when he called the store, he said.

A statement from Walgreens to The Desert Sun read: "When making the difficult decision to adjust store hours, we make every effort to minimize disruption for our customers. We select days with the lowest prescription demand, ensure that there is a nearby pharmacy to meet any immediate prescription needs and provide patients as much advanced notice as possible through signage, automated phone calls and adjustments in refills."

The adjusted operating hours for the pharmacy were not provided. The normal hours for Saturday are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., with a meal break between 1:30 to 2 p.m.

If a store closes, some pharmacy services are sent to the nearest Walgreens, according to the statement. Customers can also call 1-800-Walgreens or use the 24/7 pharmacist chat option available on the Walgreens app or website.
