Walk-in COVID-19 testing site opens at TidalHealth Peninsula Regional in Salisbury

More COVID-19 testing has arrived on the Eastern Shore.

The new walk-in testing site at TidalHealth Peninsula Regional in Salisbury opened to the public Tuesday at 10 a.m., according to a news release. It's the result of a partnership with the state to expand testing availability to meet increasing demand.

Located in a white building at the corner of Waverly Drive and Old Vine Street, the site will be open Tuesdays through Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Parking is next to the building and the entrance door faces east toward Route 13.

Reservations are not required, and testing is available for free to people all of ages. At least four testing stations will be open at all times, along with two registration stations.

Lines may be long because of demand so the hospital is recommending people dress warmly on cold days in case there is a short wait outside. There are portable restrooms on site and the building is heated as well.

There will be "self-testing/self-swabbing" offered, with staff on site to ensure people are performing the test correctly. Registered nurses from TidalHealth will also be on hand to help with small children and anyone else needing special assistance.

Instructions will be provided on how to access the results, which will be available in 24 to 48 hours.

KN95 masks will also be given out at the site while supplies last, and no one needs to take a COVID-19 test to get a mask.
