About the Jewish Cincinnati Bicentennial

Jewish community life formally began with the founding of Chestnut Street Cemetery in Cincinnati’s West End in 1821. The Jewish community and the City of Cincinnati started celebrating this milestone in September 2021 through community celebrations, multi-generational programs and interactive experiences.

The goal of the bicentennial is to inspire, elevate and connect, according to co-chair Kim Heiman. The Jewish Federation of Cincinnati, the Jewish Foundation of Cincinnati and other sponsors and partners have created more than 50 events, exhibits and experiences since last year, garnering more than 25,000 visitors.

"Like so many in this city, we started out as immigrants. But we found common ground with our fellow Cincinnatians in every facet of life, enriching one another’s culture and ensuring connections that bind us today and give us reason to celebrate, along with hope for another 200 years of growing stronger together," said Jewish Federation of Cincinnati CEO Danielle Minson.
