A walk in the park: Danford Island Park in Dimondale offers fishing, nature walk

A Walk in the Park is an ongoing series from State Journal photographer Nick King, who intends to explore Lansing area parks one hour at a time. If you have a suggestion of a park he should visit, email him at nking@lsj.com.

Danford Island Park in Dimondale is a 14-acre park nestled next to the Grand River in the village's downtown area. It's the perfect place for a quick nature walk, a day of fishing or some fun on the river.

The park features a half mile, groomed trail that takes you over a pedestrian bridge, through the woods and along the riverfront. Large, mature trees line parts of the path that opens up to a large grassy area with shade trees, picnic tables near the water and benches, some equipped with solar powered USB charging ports in case your phone needs a boost.

The river front features two docks for fishing and observing wildlife and nature. There's also a kayak launch for those so inclined.
