A Walk in the Park: Valhalla Park in Holt is a summer swim spot with nature trails and more

A Walk in the Park is an ongoing series from State Journal photographer Nick King, who intends to explore Lansing area parks one hour at a time. If you have a suggestion of a park he should visit, email him at nking@lsj.com

Valhalla Park in Holt is a 45-acre expanse that features a lake for swimming and a pond where turtles bask in the sun and dragonflies dance above the water. Don't feel like swimming? Bring a rod and reel instead.

Away from the water, there are wooded dirt trails to explore nature, a playground, open fields with softball diamonds, a Little Free Library, picnic tables, three covered pavilions and restrooms.

The park, located at 2287 Pine Tree Road, is positioned along the Valhalla Trail, which you can reach from Lansing traveling south on the Lansing River Trail and Sycamore Trail. If traveling by car, the park has ample parking.
