'The Walking Dead' Is Calling It Quits After Season 11

ATLANTA, GA — After nearly a dozen seasons, AMC has announced that its cable drama, “The Walking Dead,” will discontinue after season 11 of the zombie apocalypse.

The final season will be 24 episodes split between 2021 and 2022, reported the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Two spinoffs will continue, one featuring two of the original surviving cast members Carol (Melissa McBride) and Darryl Dixon (Norman Reedus.) The other will be an anthology series.

The show was forced to stop production for season 10 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Filmed in the Atlanta area, the cable show's filming locations have been a tourist draw for undead fans visiting Georgia.

Last month, "The Walking Dead" said it would stop filming in Atlanta as it wrapped up production. Atlanta Movie Tours was known for taking guests to popular show locations. Due to the pandemic, the company recently announced it closed its doors because it couldn't sustain business.

During a recent Comic-Con panel for "The Walking Dead," it was revealed that the Season 10 finale, "A Certain Doom," would finally broadcast on AMC on Oct. 4, reported GameSpot. Showrunner Angela Kang also revealed that AMC has ordered six more Season 10 episodes which will premiere in early 2021.
