The Walking Dead star Lauren Cohan won't get to take on another mission in Whiskey Cavalier, as the ABC spy drama has been officially cancelled.

There had been reports this week of the network potentially saving the series, but showrunner David Hemingson has now confirmed its unfortunate fate.

Hemingson took to Twitter on Friday (May 24) to announce that the show has been "fully and finally cancelled".

In the first of two tweets, he wrote: "Friends: I just got the sad news that @ABCNetwork has passed. #WhiskeyCavalier has been fully and finally cancelled. Thank you all so, so much for your efforts on our behalf. I cannot begin to express my gratitude for the outpouring of support."

In the second, he added: "It’s incredibly painful to say goodbye to this show and our extraordinary cast, but knowing that we made something you enjoyed - and that I believe will stand the test of time - makes it all worthwhile."

One the bright side, the comedy-drama's axing could potentially free up Cohan to reprise her role as Maggie in The Walking Dead.

The actress has been asked on multiple occasions recently about possibly returning for season 10.

Last month, she said that there were "definitely a lot of exciting ways" for her to make a comeback, while in March, she said she was "not done" with the show.

The Walking Dead airs on AMC in the US and on FOX in the UK. You can also catch up on the show via NOW TV.
