Former The Walking Dead star Michael Cudlitz has slammed Rick Grimes' attack plan against Negan and the Saviours, claiming that the storyline "sucked".

The actor famously played Abraham on the AMC series before his character was killed by the bat-wielding Negan at the start of season 7.

However, it's fair to say he hasn't held back in slamming the way the Rick handled the retaliation against Negan and co, even suggesting that Rick should have been the one to die because of his actions.

"Let’s be real clear, if he was gonna kill anyone other than me and I had a choice, it would be Rick," Cudlitz said at Walker Staler Con Atlanta (via ComicBook.com). "Because how many more people was that asshole gonna get killed?

"'Hey, I got a plan, let’s show up to where all the Saviours are with 500 weapons, have them step 15 feet out into the balcony unarmed, and shoot the windows out above his head.' You all know that sucked."

Rick eventually fought back against the Saviours with the help of Maggie and King Ezekiel in season 8, though it seems Cudlitz wasn't exactly a big fan of it.

"It was like the A-Team showed up," he continued as he imitated Negan. "He’s right there! He’s right there! He walks out the door. It’s not even like he peeks out. He’s like 'Well, Rick! Ha ha ha! We better run!'"

Eugene star Josh McDermitt was also in attendance and was more diplomatic, saying: “I disagree, only because I’m still on the show and like my job. I thought it was great.”

Cudlitz admitted that his criticism was from a place of love, adding: “It’s like one of those things where you’re so into something and then you’re like, ‘really, guys?’ I get pissed off because I love it.”

The Walking Dead will return on Sunday, February 10 on AMC in the US and most likely on Monday, February 11 on FOX in the UK. You can also catch up on the show via NOW TV.
