Just to throw another curveball into the mix over Lauren Cohan's potential return to The Walking Dead, it looks like her new ABC series may not be getting cancelled after all.

Earlier this month, ABC confirmed that it was axing Whiskey Cavalier after just one season, which freed up Cohan's schedule for a possible return to the hit AMC series in season 10.

However, TVLine is now reporting that ABC could reverse its cancellation decision. According to the publication, talks are ongoing between ABC and producer Warner Bros, with the chances of Whiskey returning for a second season to bow at midseason apparently at 50/50.

The studio has also apparently put feelers out to a number of streaming outlets, so the show's fate isn't sealed just yet.

The series' showrunner Bill Lawrence recently hinted that the show could still be saved by urging fans to tune into watch the series finale ahead of its airing in the US last night (May 22).

"Tonight: great season finale of #WhiskeyCavalier. Maybe check it out? Make this a 'season' finale and not a series finale. Just an idea," he wrote.

He later followed that up by encouraging viewers to keep watching on catch-up and to tweet about the show too.

"We're grateful for those who watched #WhiskeyCavalier and want to #SaveWhiskeyCavalier Thanks," he wrote.

"Also, thanks to those that watch this week. If you want to help of course tweet @ABCNetwork #WhiskeyCavalier #SaveWhiskeyCavalier and if you didn't watch yet – Watch now. Thanks!"

As for Lauren's other hit show, the actress has been keeping fans guessing over her potential return after she bowed out midway through series 9.

Earlier this year, she teased a return by saying she's "not done" with the character, while a month later she added that there were "definitely a lot of exciting ways" for her to make a comeback.

"It's not over," she said. "So, for me, that's exciting. I don't ever feel like it's [in the past]. It's the weirdest thing and I would never know it until I was in this situation, [but] I think about Maggie all the time. She's always, like, inside of me.

"This sounds weird, but she is. It's partly knowing the story is continuing, the story is unfinished."

The Walking Dead airs on AMC in the US and on FOX in the UK. You can also catch up on the show via NOW TV.
