The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live has released details about exciting new character General Beale.

Fans will have first heard his name mentioned during The Walking Dead: The World Beyond, but now the character has been cast and will be seen in the newest show.

The sixth spin-off in the franchise is set to focus on Rick and Michonne’s love story following the events of the original series.

The two characters made cameos in the finale of The Walking Dead, not in the same location but soon to be reunited, which nicely set up their own six-part limited series.

General Beale will be played by Terry O’Quinn, who is perhaps best known for his role as John Locke in Lost, or as Commander Joe White in Hawaii Five-0.

Entertainment Weekly shared a striking first-look image of General Beale on Instagram, and also spoke to O’Quinn about what we can expect from his character.

O’Quinn explained: "He is the leader of the Civic Republic Military, and it operates pretty independently on the Civic Republic government. So he doesn’t really have to deal with them very much.

"And he’s held in high esteem. He’s kind of a hero. He has a long military history. He served two terms in Vietnam and went to officer training school. And he’s had to make some decisions in terms of who lives and who dies and how to deal with the mass of walking dead."

O’Quinn was also full of praise for his co-star Andrew Lincoln, who leads this new series as Rick, alongside Danai Gurira as Michonne.

"Working with Andrew Lincoln was easy and pleasant," he said. "He’s a pro, and that’s really the closest thing I can say about anybody in terms of working with them because that involves being there, being prepared, being respectful of everyone, and being as helpful as possible. And he was that."

The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live will premiere on February 25 on AMC and AMC+ in the US. Its parent show can be streamed on AMC and Netflix in the US and STAR on Disney+ in the UK.
