Wallenpaupack's Public Service Announcement Team in top 15 at FBLA nationals

Fifteen Wallenpaupack Area High School students attended the 2023 National Leadership Conference of Future Business Leaders of America, Inc. (FBLA) in Atlanta, Georgia, June 27-30. Three of them made up the Public Service Announcement Team, which advanced to the final round and finished in the Top 15 in the nation.

"This past year, in FBLA, I have made great strides not only as a presenter but as a person," WAHS FBLA senior (Class of 2024) Kyle Carrubba said in a press release from the school. "I've met so many people across the state and across the nation at Hershey and Atlanta. I have enjoyed quality hotels and experiences which wouldn't have been possible without the generous support of our district's administration and board of education."

Carrubba, Ella Mancino and Corson Schweizer comprised the Public Service Announcement Team.

Also competing at the conference were the following WAHS FBLA chapter members: Adam Basile, Andrew Bromberger and Kai Puma Stehlik in Digital Animation; Darby Brennan in Introduction to Business Presentation; Lizzie Higgins, Michael Kelly and Kai Puma Stehlik in the chapter event of American Enterprise Project; Danielle Holzapfel and Francesca Toppi in E-Business; Abby Kirsten and Grace Steffen in Graphic Design; Maya Pagano in Electronic Career Portfolio and the chapter event of Community Service Project; and Ben Scholl in Publication Design.

“Our student members did an exceptional job in wowing the judges with their keen understanding of areas as diverse as accounting, cyber security, and health care administration,” FBLA President & CEO Alexander T. Graham said. “They headed home with a renewed sense of accomplishment, a robust network of peers from across the country, and connections to colleges and employers as they explore future career opportunities.”

The event attracted more than 13,000 middle school and high school students and educators from across the country.

Along with the competitions, students also engaged in learning workshops, met with representatives from more than 60 colleges, universities, and employers, and heard from Jordan Davis, an educational speaker and FBLA alumnus, during the opening ceremony.

FBLA, based in Reston, Virginia, is the nation’s largest career and technical student organization focused solely on business. Future Business Leaders of America, Inc. is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) education association with active middle school, high school, and college chapters worldwide. The press release states that FBLA inspires and prepares students to become community-minded business leaders in a global society through relevant career preparation and leadership experiences.
