WalletHub: Virginia ranks No. 9 for political engagement among African Americans

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — Virginia ranks No. 9 for states with the highest level of political engagement among African Americans, according to WalletHub.

2024 is a presidential election year, and every vote could change the course of the election. WalletHub did a study that evaluated how involved the Black community was in voting in different states.

Some of the metrics used were Black voter turnout and registrations for 2020 Presidential elections, Black voter turnout and registration for 2022 Midterm Elections, etc.

This is how Virginia ranked in several categories, according to the study:

  • 16th – Black Voter Turnout (2020 Presidential Election)

  • 17th – Black Voter Turnout (2022 Midterm Elections)

  • 26th – Black Voter Registration (2020 Presidential Election)

  • 4th – Black Voter Registration (2022 Midterm Elections)

  • 23rd – Proportional Representation of Black People in U.S. House of Representatives.
