Walmart is making it even easier for shoppers with PTSD, autism and other sensory-related disabilities to browse its aisles with minimal distractions this holiday shopping season.

Walmart expands sensory-friendly shopping ahead of Black Friday

Walmart will dim the lights, lower in-store music and replace the usual display TV programing with soothing, static photos to make its stores easier on the senses.

Walmart first announced its plans for sensory-friendly shopping during this year's back-to-school sale.

Previously, Walmart offered sensory-friendly shopping from 8 a.m. until 10 a.m. on Saturdays. Walmart will now provide that sensory-friendly shopping window daily.

In a statement on its website, Walmart officials said the company "took a step in making shopping in our stores more inclusive for those with sensory disabilities by taking measures to create a less stimulating environment" for a couple hours each Saturday.

"The feedback of the pilot program was overwhelmingly positive. These changes may have seemed small to some, but for others they transformed the shopping experience," read a portion of Walmart's statement. "During these hours, we hope our customers and associates will find the stores to be a little easier on the eyes and ears. These changes are thanks to those who shared their feedback on how their stores could help them feel like they belong."

Walmart began its expanded sensory-friendly shopping hours this week, and Walmart leadership said this change is permanent.
