Walnut Hills, Mariemont, Indian Hill and Wyoming ranked as top Ohio high schools

Four of Ohio's top five public high schools are in Greater Cincinnati, according to the latest U.S. News & World Report rankings published Tuesday.

Ohio's top five high schools, according to the magazine, are:

  1. Bexley High School, (near Columbus).

  2. Walnut Hills High School.

  3. Mariemont High School.

  4. Indian Hill High School.

  5. Wyoming High School.

Those local schools ranked in the top 200 high schools in the country, too: Walnut Hills at No. 146, Mariemont at No. 164, Indian Hill at No. 187 and Wyoming at No. 190.

The rankings are based on graduation rates, college-level exam scores and student state test scores for math, reading and science.

Four other local high schools made Ohio's top 20 list: William Mason High School at No. 11, Turpin High School at No. 14, Madeira High School at No. 15 and Sycamore High School at No. 17.

In Kentucky, Highlands High School in Fort Thomas ranked No. 3 in the state and Beechwood High School in Fort Mitchell ranked No. 5. Campbell County High School in Alexandria ranked in Kentucky's top 20, at No. 19.

U.S. News & World Report also ranked high schools for the Greater Cincinnati region, including schools from Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana. Below are the top 10 high schools in the region:

  1. Walnut Hills High School.

  2. Mariemont High School.

  3. Indian Hill High School.

  4. Wyoming High School.

  5. William Mason High School.

  6. Highlands High School.

  7. Turpin High School.

  8. Madeira High School.

  9. Beechwood High School.

  10. Sycamore High School.

There are rankings for each school district, too. At Cincinnati Public Schools, the School for Creative and Performing Arts was ranked second to Walnut Hills High School. In Boone County Schools, Larry A. Ryle High School ranked No. 1 followed by Conner High School.
